Understanding Circulation, Filtration, and Sanitation
It might seem like a lot. But we can promise you that once you get used to pool maintenance tasks, they will become second nature to you. All you need to do is remember the three most crucial elements of pool ownership. They are circulation, filtration, and sanitation:
- Circulation: Every pool has a pump system, which is looped. It is designed to circulate all of the water in the pool every day. The pumps are crucial to this process. They pull water from the pool and return it after it has been treated and filtered.
- Filtration: Swimming pool filters remove tiny particles found in the water. They keep the water clean and clear bypassing all water through them – at least once a day.
- Sanitation: Chemical sanitizers destroy algae, bacteria, and other particles, which, left unchecked, can ruin your pool and cause illnesses. Chlorine is the most popular pool sanitizer.
It Is Essential To Maintain Your Pool’s Circulation
Pool maintenance for beginners can seem like an overwhelming chore. But it’s not. The first step toward a clean and usable pool is circulation. Every pool, regardless of size, has a looped plumbing system. Swimming pools rely on this circulation to make the water swimmable. Fortunately, you can do a few things to keep the water in good shape. Run the pool pump eight to 12 hours a day. Also, backwash or clean the filter if the pressure rises above 10-15 psi. You should also clean the skimmer and pool basket and always keep the jets facing circular and downward.
Pool Maintenance Made Easy: Mastering Filtration Tasks
As your pool’s water sits in the sun, it collects tiny particles. The filtration system keeps your water crystal clear and safe for swimming. There are three types of filters – sand, DE, and cartridge filters. They all perform the same tasks but in slightly different ways. What unites them is the necessity of cleaning them once a year. But you might have to do so more than once a year, depending on the pool filter pressure. Every once in a while, check the pressure and make sure it is not higher than usual. A high reading indicates a dirty filter or an obstruction in the filter.
Sanitation is Crucial to Effective Pool Cleaning
The last step in keeping your pool party-ready is maintaining the sanitation levels. Your pool requires a daily dose of sanitation – usually chlorine – to keep the water safe for swimming. Most pool owners find that a 3” chlorine tablet is the most convenient and cost-effective technique for sanitizing their pool water. Maintaining proper sanitation levels is not difficult. First, you should test the water one to two times a week. Be sure to also balance the pH and alkalinity. Lastly, you should shock the water bi-weekly.
